NCSU Chancellor Portrait Unveiling

Luana Luconi Winner has completed the official retirement portrait of Chancellor James L. Oblinger for North Carolina State University. The 42 x 33 portrait will be unveiled at a reception at Park Alumni Center on Centennial Campus for the Board of Trustees on Friday, February 17th, 2012, and then moved to the permanent collection in Holladay Hall. Dr. Oblinger is the thirteenth Chancellor since the founding of this 33,000 student university in 1889. Mrs. Winner is the first woman to be chosen for such a commission.

The portrait features Wolf Plaza in the center of the campus with Alexander Hall in the background as an example of typical architecture on campus. Dr. Oblinger initiated the recent installation of the school mascot, "The Wolf Pack" appearing behind him in the portrait. The five foot tall bronzes by California artist Michael Stutz have become the modern icon for NC State after the famous Bell Tower.
