A founding member and North Carolina Ambassador of the Portrait Society of America, Mrs. Winner was schooled in Rome, Florence, Switzerland, and the USA. Luana’s portraits and murals hang in corporations, universities, and residences on both sides of the ocean. Her portraits and paintings in oil, pastel, watercolor, and acrylic have won national and international recognitions and awards. These include an international silver medal in the International Association of Pastel Societies Biennial, and “Best in Show” in the Richeson 75 International Portrait and Figure competition, and the Prix due Conseil General at the international pastel exposition “Pastel en Perigord,” Saint Aulaye, France.


In demand as an instructor, she has served as faculty for the Portrait Society of America International Conferences in Boston, Dallas, and Washington, DC, the International Association of Pastel Societies in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, “Pastel en Perigord” Dordogne region France, American Artist Magazine Art Methods Conference in Pasadena, CA, the Pearl Paint Great American Art Event in New York City, the Portrait Society of Atlanta, Georgia, Cheap Joe’s in Boone, Jerry’s Art of the Carolinas in Raleigh, the Learning and Products Expo in Chicago and Pasadena, and the Richeson School of Art in Wisconsin, as well as, local and regional art centers and museums on the east coast of the US and Venice, Florence, Lucca, Sienna, Rome, Italy.

Her articles have appeared in International Artist Magazine, Artist Magazine, American Artist Magazine, Strathmore Art Materials on line magazine, Art of the Portrait, Signature, The Folio, regional publications, and periodicals. She served as past national Chairman of the Literature Committee for the Cecilia Beaux Forum. Luana has authored four workbooks, produced twenty instructional painting and drawing DVD’s.

Luana’s new book “Painting Classic Portraits: Great Faces Step by Step” is fast becoming the go–to hardbound text for painting people in worldwide distribution. In Summer 2014, the book was translated into Chinese and distributed across Asia as three new DVD’s in oil, watercolor, and pastel are being distributed in the western hemisphere. Silver Brush has designed and is distributing three sets of brushes with Luana’s name. Stathmore drawing pads of Gray Scale Paper distributed worldwide features Luana’s heightened Charcoal drawing called “Storytime” on its cover.

Mrs. Winner is past president of the Artists Association of Artspace, a major art complex with working studios, galleries, and a teaching center, and is Past President of the Pastel Society of North Carolina.
